Soar Symposium Day 2

The Soar Symposium offers unique professional development workshops, panel discussions and artist talks. Spend the weekend honing your skills or learning new ones. Registration is open to the public – artists and arts supporters of all ages, disciplines and skill levels.

All sessions are at Casa. Room assignments will be included in your registration confirmation and delegate package. Sessions subject to change.

$50 Festival Pass (Save $5) includes all Symposium Sessions and Cabaret Admission

Document your art practice! Learn the importance of documenting everything; from 2-D artworks, gallery installations, sculpture, site-specific work and/or to uploading your work to a website.

11:00 – 12:00 Promo Packages & You with Kelaine Devine, Allied Arts Council Communications Coordinator
We know you hate it but get the dirt on how to write Press Releases, Bios, Artist Statements, CVs (Artist Resumes) and talking to the media about your work. Advice and techniques to make the painful process easier.

12:30 – 2:30 Camera Ready: Be In Front of the Video Camera with Nick Bohle, actor / filmmaker
Don’t freeze! Learn about prepping auditions for camera, feeling comfortable in front of the camera and working with the media. For actors and non-actors alike, this workshop will help you be ready for your close-up!

2:30 – 3:30 Self-publish! with Eric Dyck, Slaughterhouse Slough & Belinda Crowson, Galt Museum & Archives
Local literary celebrities talk about the process of creating and publishing work. Whether it is a graphic novel, fiction, art book or chapbook, you too, can publish your own work!

3:30 – 5:00 Working in the Arts Wrap it up! Finish your Soar Symposium experience with an informal gathering of presenters, delegates, artists and arts administrators to talk about working and creating opportunities for working in the arts. We’re not going to use the dreaded ‘network’ word at all to describe this session. Come for the snacks and awesome people.
