Artist Talk: Amrita Deshpande 7:00pm FREE

Artist Talk & Reception: Amrita Deshpande
Friday, November 24, 7:00 – 9:00pm
ATB Financial Community Room, Casa

Installation: The duration of the multi-media installation for this project is quite short and will be available for viewing Thursday, November 23, 6pm – 9pm, Sunday, November 24, 9am – 9pm and Saturday, November 25, 9am – 8pm. Be sure to stop by the building to take in this intriguing new work.

During her residency, Deshpande collected artifacts, sounds, dance performances, video, photography and augmented reality of the lived experiences of refugees in Lethbridge. The artist collaborated with refugees in narrating a story through the use of mobile phones to record images, compose and juxtapose text, audio and video. This research culminates in a multi-media installation in the ATB Financial Community Room. Working with local refugees, she has created a simulated environment that encapsulates the hardships they experienced before coming to Canada and their everyday lives in Lethbridge.

Amrita Deshpande is a new media, visual artist working in computer graphics, interactive multi-media, animation, painting in acrylic, henna and watercolours. Deshpande has taught and exhibited around the world, though currently residing in Lethbridge.
