AiR Gabrielle Houle – Performance

Join us on Saturday, September 7 at 6:00pm in the Casa Community Room for a performance by Artist in Residence Gabrielle Houle and her team! Afterwards, stay for our next gallery opening reception from 7-9pm! Read below for more information on the performance.

This performance is a staged reading of Simon Always Loved to Dance, the first English translation of Simon a toujours aimé danser by queer Québécois author Simon Boulerice. This event is concluding a two-week exploration process facilitated by Gabrielle Houle during her residency at Casa, with artistic collaborators Justin Blum (translator), Katharine Zaborsky (musician and sound designer), Jorge Sandoval (choreographer), Jordan Payne (actor), and Oakley Baikie (stage manager).

Simon Always Loved to Dance is an interdisciplinary solo performance loosely based on Simon Boulerice’s youth. It explores Simon’s journey of self-discovery and self-love, recalling moments from his childhood that shaped him and taught him who he is, including his first love, his first heartbreak, his early experiences facing bullies, and his discovery of music, world history, and dance. The reading includes elements of music and danse. It is poetic, joyful, and will appeal to an intergenerational audience.
