Blacksmithing is the ancient craft of heating metal in a forge, typically iron or steel, until it’s red-hot and pliable, and then shaping it into functional and decorative objects using hammers, anvils, tongs, and other tools. In this introductory workshop learn anvil anatomy, hammer control, and smithing basics. Participants will finish with at least two nails and one decorative wall hook.
Participants need to wear close-toed shoes (preferably leather boots), pants and long sleeved-shirts made of organic materials (such as cotton, linen, or wool). There will be a break at midday; registrants are encouraged to pack lunch, snacks and a water bottle. Materials provided.
