Thought about applying for an artist grant? Nervous about the process? Don’t know where to start?

Kari McQueen, Arts Development Consultant, from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA) will be joining us to discuss grant writing and some of the grants the AFA offers to artists here in Alberta. If you have questions about grants or grant writing then please join us to get some amazing inside information.

The AFA offers grants in theatre, performance arts, literary arts, film/video, music, visual arts, new media, and dance.

Kari McQueen is a visual and media artist with over 25 years in the cultural sector, including working in Artist-Run-Culture, media arts, film, dance, public galleries, and art education. She is co-founder of the Calgary Underground Film Festival (CUFF) and the M:ST Performative Arts Festival. Prior to joining the AFA, McQueen freelanced as a grant writer and consultant for artists and organizations in the Calgary area and has an in-depth understanding of the granting process from the applicant’s point of view.

The Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA) exists to encourage and support the arts as a significant contributor to the quality of life in Alberta. The AFA is a public agency and a provincial corporation of the Government of Alberta with a mandate to support and contribute to the development of the arts in Alberta. The AFA provides grant funding to artists and arts organizations to encourage the growth and development of the arts sector. It also promotes the arts and manages an extensive provincial art collection featuring work from artists all over the province.

Free professional development session for those interested in pursuing art as a career or those just curious about the process. Open to artists of all levels and disciplines.

ART/WORK Professional Development Sessions are held monthly on the first Thursday of the month at 6:00pm.
