Inside/Out: A contemporary art world insider who realizes monumental public works around the world, and two fascinating artists working outside of the institutional gallery system are featured in thought- provoking documentaries.

Jaume Plensa: Can You Hear Me? (Directed by Pedro Ballesteros, 65m, 2020)
Can You Hear Me? is an in-depth exploration of the work and personality of the sculptor Jaume Plensa. Together with Plensa we visit some of his most representative pieces, sited in public spaces in Spain, France, Sweden, the US, Canada and Japan, on a series of trips that also take in the ideas that nurture his works. We also witness the genesis and construction of a major project for the lobby of a New York skyscraper, the preparations for a retrospective of his work at the MACBA in Barcelona, the inauguration of a major open-air exhibition in Stock- holm, and the siting of large sculptures in Madrid, the island of Porqueroles and, once again, New York. Making the most of the access and intimacy provided by one of the most import artists active on today’s art scene, this documentary deals with the mechanisms leading to artistic creation, the questions that arise from our engagement with it, and how art, that thing which has no use, can transform our ways of seeing and being in the world, if only for an instant.

Love Bite – Laurie Lipton (Directed by James Scott, 34 mins, 2016)
No one on the planet has drawn more than Laurie Lipton. LOVE BITE chronicles her life and prolific body of black & white work spanning over fifty years. Largely ignored by the mainstream art world, her haunting creations are made up of hundreds of thousands of tiny strokes of the humble pencil. Laurie and her work seek answers to some of the most uncomfortable themes in our culture – fear, politics, sexuality, murder, mayhem, greed, and indifference – answers that will likely never be black or white. What compels a bright and outspoken woman to live a life of isolation drawing is as disquieting as the images themselves.

Who Is David Tibet? (Directed by Gerald Fox, 2020, 24m)
David Tibet, a British poet, artist, and founder of the music group Current 93, opened his first ever art exhibit in America. The exhibit titled “Invocation of Almost” showcased a large selection of paintings, drawings, and sculptures reflecting Tibet’s interest and study of Coptic and Akkadian texts, shamanism, and spirituality. This film was commissioned by the California State University, Fullerton. “Who is David Tibet?”  was filmed in the 3 days leading up to the exhibit opening.
