Lines and Void

Lines and Void

Lines and Void – Maria Madacky
September 11 – October 23, 2021
Please note the opening celebration for this exhibition will be September 25 at 7:00pm during Arts Days

Maria Z. Madacky’s artistic practice is rooted in mythology, folklore, and ancient beliefs. She uses primarily drawing and installation art to explore such themes as liminality, altered states of consciousness, the nature of our reality, and human culture as understood from within. She completed her MFA at the University of Alberta in 2008 and currently lives and works between Lethbridge and Coaldale.

My work is visually minimal and process-oriented, where the repetition of rhythmic and tedious movements allows both grounding and meditation. I use primarily drawing and intermedia to explore such themes as liminality, altered states of consciousness, nature of our reality, and human culture as understood from within.

I am especially interested in projects that build on participatory aesthetics where emphasis is placed on the active role of the viewer in the realization and reception of the work.
