‘In our Blackfoot language we have descriptive names of places all over our ancestral land in Blackfoot territory.  This has been a common element in the images that have surfaced in my work.  As children we played and explored on the hills overlooking the mountains to the west and the Old Man River flowing to the east.  In my educational background I felt it was important to help my students to understand the importance of knowing one’s culture and language in connection to the land just as our grandmothers and grandfathers passed unto us.  This is an important aspect to my life as a mother, grandmother, traditionalist and as a First Nations artist.  Our grandparents thought about us before we were born and now, their spirits see us on the land where their footsteps have led us.”
