Objects for Empaths

Objects for Empaths

Objects for Empaths – Tanya Doody
September 11 – October 23, 2021
Please note the opening celebration for this exhibition will be September 25 at 7:00pm during Arts Days

While considering this exhibition, I wanted to reach out to others as I often do through my projects. Acknowledging the era in which we are living was essential to the planning of this work. Objects for Empaths was made in consideration of those whose experiences are closer to the surface, for those who are impacted deeply by the emotional state of others in the world, for the most sensitive among us.

ASMR for Empaths, the video component to the exhibition, is a means of reaching out across space to others while remaining physically distanced. The ASMR format is used to create a sense of calm, and has sensorial reach over distance while foregrounding sound and touch. With the video, I am able to share some of the objects in the exhibition in an intimate way.

Tanya Doody has been combining handmade objects and performance in her practice since 2010. Professionally trained in traditional craft processes, she places value in the handmade and the buildup of tacit knowledge in the handling of material(s) over time. The connection of materials and objects to bodies and gestures is the basis of her performance art practice.
