Praise for Birds – Rosemary Allan
Praise for Birds – Rosemary Allan
Opening Reception: Saturday, November 8, 2025, 7pm – 9pm
This exhibition features an assemblage mobile, a series of monotypes, and the artist book Flow. It is through light we come to illumination, which can cause migration in birds, and heart solutions in us. In gifting light solutions in this season, we can Be, Become, Beckon, and Beacon for others. Within communities of practice, seasonal changes help us to grow light solutions. Praise for Birds shows that boundaries can be winged, and this is boundless in times of light solutions and illuminations.
Monotype printing is a process which can be undertaken either with a press or without a press. The matrix or plate, usually flat, can be inked using an additive, and/or subtractive procedure, with brushes, stencils, brayers, stamps, rags, and any chosen variety of textured pre-inked surfaces. Once an inked matrix has been printed onto a dry paper support, and a press, or a barren has been used, the surface would need to be reworked to add ink, or subtract it to create a completely renewed ink surface from which to print a new and unique image.
Monotype printing can be effectively used in a thematically related opus, or as individual explorations which are uniquely painterly, working by design, and imprinted with textured surfaces.
A monotype can be a very direct and spontaneous enactment of ink to paper support that creates a unique image which it is not possible to duplicate in its original created form.
Rosemary Allan is an insomniac creative constantly working to explore and expand her visual thinking. She creates year-round, and gardens in the summers. In the fall, winter and spring she enlivens ideas found in sketchbooks, and in Plein Aire and through journaling, she creates daily, and enjoys conversations with friends in the process.
