The Threshold – Within or Beyond – Lethbridge Artists Club
This exhibition considers “doors, or thresholds”, that offer both an entrance and an exit; a portal to transition from one world into another.
What does the world beyond the door offer?
What are we leaving behind as we go through the portal? Are we escaping, or simply seeking further exploration?
This concept has a broad presence in human history; religions are rife with this concept, as are literature, folk lore, colloquial belief, and myths.
What stories lie behind the doors we pass? Who entered? Who has left and never returned?
Reaching a threshold also means coming to a point when, once crossed, things will be changed forever.
The Lethbridge Artists Club is a band of local artists of all abilities who share time and knowledge to maintain an artistic tradition in the community. This enduring club has been a presence in Southern Alberta for many decades, was established in 1936 and in 2026 is celebrating 90 years! Artist members now enjoy the same activities that the founders of the Club did; painting together in studio and plein air (outdoors), staging exhibitions, having sales, encouraging community involvement in art, and offering classes and workshops.
Many walls in Lethbridge homes are graced by paintings and drawings by Club members.
These days the Club has about 60 members who work in a myriad of painting styles, producing work in experimental as well as traditional style in different mediums…we welcome all interpretations. We now welcome artists working in 3D as well as printmakers and pencil and crayon sketchers. We have been involved in public art installations in Lethbridge as well as several murals in care centers.
