Upside Downtown Concert – Clover Overboard and Karen Romanchuk

The Allied Arts Council of Lethbridge (AAC) is excited to announce the return of the successful Upside Downtown Concert, bringing free outdoor music to Downtown Lethbridge. Performances will take place on Rotary Square in front of Casa every Thursday in July and August from 5-7 pm. This summer, the series promises an exciting lineup of local talent, making it the perfect way to enjoy warm, shaded, evenings with friends and family. The concerts are free to attend and feature a licensed area for those wishing to enjoy a beverage while soaking in the music. A food truck will also be on-site during the performances.

The Upside Downtown Concert series aims to create a vibrant, inclusive atmosphere where music lovers of all ages can come together and enjoy high-quality live performances. An exciting addition this year will be the curated art presentation “Roots/Route” by Be.Trit featuring a mobile sculpture on the square as well as additional artwork presented within artist kiosks on site.

Clover Overboard:

Clover Overboard is a 5-piece Celtic-rock/pop punk band based in Lethbridge, Alberta. Inspired by the gravelly stylings of the Dropkick Murphy’s and Flogging Molly, they present frontwoman Alexanne Oke,  who steers away from “pretty” vocal styles and instead leans loud.

Their sound is made whole through many instruments and talents. Lead guitarist Megan Schritt fills their songs with sounds that make you tilt your head and say ‘Oooo, damn!’ Then there’s Rabbyt, the essential drummer who grew up on pop punk and propels the band with that same infectious energy.

In August of 2023, their sound filled out even more as they secured the incredibly talented (orchestra-level) fiddle player Alina Khvatova, and prog-rock proficianado bassist Nolan Musch. She adds essential dreamy Celtic vibes, while he injects a subtle funk which enhances the sound even further.

The band plays a select few covers chosen to please the crowd, while the rest of their set is original songs. With several local gigs and two singles under their belt, this is one band to watch. Music on Spotify.”

Karen Romanchuk:

Raised in small town central Alberta then moving to the “big” windy city of Lethbridge Karen has honed her songwriting skills for over 30 years.  Her first love being country music she now leans toward the alt country music scene. If you ask her to describe her music she’ll reply with “I’m a little Lucinda (Williams) mixed with Steve Earle. That’s certainly not all there is …she has tons of experience mixed with a voice that will send shivers up your spine and put some stomp in your boots.

Career highlights include 4 CD’s and a diverse line up of Juno award winners who have had her open shows for them including The Good Lovelies, Jill Barber, Wendall Ferguson and Willie P Bennett (RIP). Other opening spots include The Fates, Katherine Wheatley, Lynn Miles, Rob Szabo, Dave Gunning, Colin James, Alannah Myles, Leeroy Stagger and Gaye Delorme.
