Art That Moves – Textile Surface Design Guild of Lethbridge
Art That Moves – Textile Surface Design Guild of Lethbridge
One Night Only! A Wearable Art Pop-Up! November 8, 7pm – 9pm
The Textile Surface Design Guild of Lethbridge is a collective of artists and makers who explore and practice a variety of surface design techniques, both individually and collaboratively. The guild increases cultural awareness of textile arts for members and the community and promotes its members’ artistic skills and expertise. We achieve this by offering educational programs, sharing resources and providing opportunities to practice our art form in an atmosphere of cooperation and artistic exchange.
In this “moving” exhibition of textile art, we present a diverse array of techniques that have been explored over the past several years – expressed through wearable forms. These surface design methods include (but are not limited to): indigo and rust dyeing, eco printing and dyeing, sun dyeing, veggie and lino printing, slow stitching, traditional embroidery and sashiko. Textile arts provide an opportunity to incorporate technique and creativity to transform a simple silhouette into expressive, functional pieces of art.
Many of our pieces incorporate recycled or upcycled fabrics, giving new meaning to materials that might otherwise be overlooked and underappreciated. Through our work, we aim to inspire, connect and celebrate the beauty of textile arts.
We invite you to enjoy “Art That Moves”.
