Becoming Unlimited: Film Screening and Dancing Party

Becoming Unlimited: watch the film and join a dance party!
Wednesday May 25,2022 6:30-8:30PM
Casa Arts Centre – 230-8th Street South Lethbridge

Join us for a great evening of inclusive dance.
We are celebrating the Lethbridge premiere public screening of Becoming Unlimited – a short documentary about the magic that happened when differently-abled people were included in dance training, creation, and performance at the University of Lethbridge. From intense rehearsals, to exhilarating performances, to tearful goodbyes, Becoming Unlimited follows the creation of a multi-ability dance production. Behind the scenes, the team works through candid and sometimes difficult realizations. As we witness both the struggles and the exhilaration, viewers are challenged to question perceptions of artistry, ability, and integration. The film has recently won awards and has been selected by several international film festivals.

After the screening, the audience can talk with some of the performers and with film director Lisa Doolittle.

Audience members are invited to stay on for a dance party hosted by Lethbridge’s inclusive dance group – Beyond Limits Dance Collective. Since 2015, weekly multi-ability dance classes have brought dozens of adults to the Casa dance studio for technique, improvisation, and choreography. The group has performed in showcases produced by Lethbridge Society of Independent Dance Artists, and at other community events.

Dormant since COVID 19’s arrival, the group hopes to restart in Fall of 2022.
