Dog Trail – Jared Tailfeathers

Dog Trail – Jared Tailfeathers

Opening Reception: Saturday, November 8, 2025

Dog Trail is a collection of themes, knowledge, and skill-building that detail a journey of research and connection through multi-media work. Seeking to understand Blackfoot Traditional Methods of Making and creating contemporary works based on those methods. Stories, history, landmarks, and places. Documented through a multi-year, multi-phase project.

Indoor: Before the horse was reintroduced to this land, the people were reliant upon their relationship to the dog, IImiitaa, and that time for thousands of years was called the Dog Days. Their name translates to The Spirits Who Dwell With Us.  They weren’t pets but partners in society. In that spirit, I have spent years following the Dog Trail, first by myself and then with my companions, and have documented that experience in all of the objects present. Every location, whether painted or photographed, holds a story, a name and a song that connects the artist, the patrons, and everyone with ties to this land to the beginning of culture here, those stories and ancient names.

Jared Tailfeathers is a multidisciplinary artist, musician, author, curator and inventor. His work deals with Blackfoot and Indigenous Treaty 7 Art, history, site protection and acknowledgement, and cultural sustainability, his work also deals with public art, design, and public discussions.
