Feathers, Scales, and Fur – Stuart Biesbroek

I create layered, painted wood art featuring the furred, feathered, and scaled wildlife found in and around Lethbridge, Alberta, using reclaimed wood as my canvas.

I make this art because my love of wildlife and my desire to reclaim materials from the local landfill come together in a message about conservation and finding beauty in what others consider waste.

I collect local pallets and scrap lumber, process them into laminated sheets, and then cut and sand the wood to create each animal, while reclaimed conduit reel ends are prepared as backgrounds before everything is finished with acrylic paint.

I hope my art inspires people to appreciate the natural world around them and recognize that each of us can play a part in being a steward of the places and wildlife we share.

Stuart Beezer is a multidisciplinary artist based in Lethbridge, Alberta, whose work explores wildlife, nature, and the possibilities of reclaimed materials. His current practice transforms discarded pallets, scrap lumber, and conduit reel ends into layered, dimensional paintings of local wildlife through a process of laminating, cutting, sanding, and hand-painting wood. By giving discarded materials new life, Stuart creates colourful works that celebrate the natural world and encourage a deeper appreciation for conservation
