September – Sandrine Coronat

My practice has evolved throughout the years, and a deeper awareness and understanding of my surroundings has largely influenced my work. Textile recycling, architecture, a love for design, and environmental awareness have all influenced the creation of a graphic universe where organic shapes and expressions are directly borrowed from nature. This thought process naturally led me to explore the biophilic framework in an indirect experience of nature, space and place.

This exhibition is a reflection of both of these concepts; Biophilia and biophilic design. The work stems from the necessity to recognise how much human physical and mental wellbeing continues to rely on the quality of our relationships to the world beyond ourselves.

As a multidisciplinary artist, I completed a masters in Fine Arts and Art History at the University of Bordeaux III, France. I have since taught fine arts in France as well as here in Canada. My true passion lies in the textile arts and painting. I have had the opportunity to showcase my pictorial work in Edmonton at CAVA ( Centre d’Art Visuel de l’Alberta), and have recently participated in the Art Days’ Pop-up Gallery, organized by the City of Lethbridge.
